Just days before the famous Met Gala event, we are blessed to welcome back an iconic fashion event- New York Fashion Week (NYFW)

“Start spreadin’ the news, I’m leavin’ today, I want to be a part of it…!”

NEW YORK, NEW YORK!

The city that never sleeps is one of the busiest urban centres in the world. Every newcomer who has ever arrived with a cultural suitcase has contributed to the sounds, tastes and textures of New York.

But it is their dreams which built the city.

A lifestyle brand based in downtown New York City, called NYON, sums up the city in a simple phrase:

“If it’s not in New York, then it’s Nowhere”.

From fashion legends to contemporary designers striving to make their mark on the fashion industry, NYC is full of talented fashion experts revolutionising the industry.

With New York, Fashion Week (NYFW) occurring annually since 1943, New York City has established itself as one of the fashion capitals of the world.

With that being said, it’s only a few days to go until the new age of designers has a chance to showcase their spring collections for 2022.

Just days before the famous Met Gala event, we are blessed to welcome back an iconic fashion event after two seasons of digital presentations.

However, this season some events are bolder than ever.

The official NYFW calendar runs from Sept. 8 to Sept. 12 for the ladies, running primarily in Manhattan, Skylight Clarkson Square and Industria (NY).

According to the WWD, The NYFW spring 2022 season will feature 91 shows and presentations from designers and brands including Michael Kors,

Gabriela Hearst, Tory Burch, Carolina Herrera, Altuzarra, Phillip Lim, Proenza Schouler,

Jason Wu, Rodarte, Brandon Maxwell, Markarian, Christian Siriano, Adam Lippes, Kevan Hall, Peter Do, Victor Glemaud, Khaite and Staud, among others.

While spring 2021, the season will see the return of New York Men’s Day, which will take place on Sept. 15 from 9 to 11 a.m.

The event will showcase ten emerging men’s wear and gender-fluid designers, including Apotts, Carter Young, David Hart, Future Lovers of Tomorrow, Ka Wa Key, Official Rebrand, Stan, Teddy Vonranson, Timo Weiland and Wataru Tominaga.

Due to the recent pandemic, NYFW spring 2022 will be a primarily in-person invite-only.

However, some shows will be digital-only, and some will be live-streamed on NYFW.com or through the various designers’ personal social media platforms.

To attend the events you can request a press pass or choose an event you want to sit in on. Head over to the fashion calendar and look out for the: open-to-the-public shows.

These can range from anywhere from totally free to over $1500 for a VIP ticket. But be prepared as some events have dress codes.

Seeing as this year’s event has made an in-person comeback of the century, the venues are still holding strict COVID regulations. All designers, models, make-up artists and stylists, including the guests, will need to show vaccination proof and wear masks inside.

But, rules and regulations aside, there is no stopping designers from producing a stand-out performance to showcase their collections to retailers and the press worldwide.

The most dramatic NYFW venue you ask?

While some designers are scaling back, sizing down, and playing it safe during these unforeseen times. LaQuan Smith is going out.

THE LaQuan Smith just booked out the entire empire state building.

On 9 September at 9 pm, his runway debut will make history. This will be the first-ever show to take place in the 90-year-old landmark.

Standing as the world’s tallest building, soaring 443m high, for 40 years of its life, the grandeur and scale of The Empire State building inspired near-universal awe and cemented it as the defining structure of New York City.

The Big Apple’s most beloved skyscraper is one of the world’s most famous buildings and is a symbol of American innovation.

According to Vogue, Smith’s presentation will shut down the famous skyscraper for the entire day, utilizing space from the ground level to the observation deck.

“Showing at the Empire State Building this season is a huge moment. To be able to show my spring 2022 collection at one of the most famous buildings in the city really feels like a full-circle moment for me.”

LaQuan Smith

The luxury fashion designer debuted in 2013, and his brand has gained acclaim for its endless archive of distinctive garments and details.

Smith has cultivated an equally dynamic private order clientele that spans the globe from Lagos to London.

The incredible artistry of LaQuan Smith builds on a history of fashion that reimagines seduction and sensuality in ways that empower those who wear or view his designs.

Born in Queens, New York, he started his brand at the age of 21 and worked his way up until according to Forbes, women from Jennifer Lopez to Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna are known to drink from his aesthetic design fountain.

“My vision for this collection was to inspire women to dress up and feel sexy again because New York is back. I am so passionate about this collection and am very excited for everyone to see what I have been working so hard on” – LaQuan Smith.
