Conor Kennedy Took His Surname to Rio

October 13, 2026•Share

A blessing at Christ the Redeemer, a Calvin Klein slip dress cut in the Carolyn Bessette manner, Tiffany high jewellery out of the archive, and a groom whose day job is 11,000 Zantac claimants.

The detail I keep returning to is a pair of gloves.

Sheer, opera-length, worn over a nineties slip dress made at the Calvin Klein atelier in New York, at a wedding where the bride is a Brazilian pop singer and the groom’s surname is Kennedy. Nobody had to say the name Carolyn out loud. Conor Kennedy, the oldest child of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his second wife, Mary Richardson, and the third oldest of the secretary’s six, married Giulia Be in Rio de Janeiro over three days beginning Friday 9 October 2026. The clothes had finished the introductions before the priest started his.

This is how the family has always handled a reference: put it on the table, leave it there, decline to annotate. A slip dress of that cut, from that atelier, worn into that surname, is a sentence spoken without words, and it travels further in silence than it would in a caption. The bride sings in two languages and has been photographed professionally since she was nineteen. She knew what she had on.

Blessing, Cathedral, Reception

Friday was a blessing at Christ the Redeemer. Saturday, 10 October, was the religious ceremony at the Igreja Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Antiga Sé, the old cathedral in central Rio, which the Brazilian press duly noted was hosting the son of a serving American cabinet secretary. The third day was the reception at the Instituto Brando Barbosa, where, according to Portal Leo Dias, the bride set out to give the international guests an authentically Brazilian experience.

A monument above the city, then the old cathedral at its centre, then a party. The sequence is not accidental, and for a bride marrying an American political surname it does a quiet piece of work: the foreign guests are moved through Rio rather than parked in a hotel ballroom with a view of it. The hosting city was part of the brief.

She walked in on her father’s arm to “Nessun Dorma”. The custom gown was by the British designer Harris Reed, made in London; the beauty was Lancôme; the jewels came out of Tiffany & Co.’s High Jewellery archive, per the same report. Two ateliers, two continents, one aria. The restrained thing about the weekend was the silhouette.

The paperwork had been dealt with months before. Vogue reported that the couple were already legally married, having held a small event in Los Angeles in March 2026, which makes Rio the sacrament and the party arranged around a Californian certificate. Poder360 framed the weekend as the singer bringing the Kennedy family to Rio. The guest list was not published, which in October 2026, with the groom’s father in the cabinet, is itself a decision rather than an oversight.

The Potato

Go back to 12 August 2024, when the engagement arrived as a joint Instagram post: photographs, and a short video shot in the minutes after he proposed. Her caption was “easiest yes of all time”. In the video she says, “I literally can’t believe this. I’m dreaming.” He tells her he loves her, and calls her potato. She adds that they are both sweaty and gross after work, and that this is the best part.

It is worth sitting with what the footage shows, because the Kennedys do not generally release footage. There is no styling in it, no ring angle, no second take. Two people who have just come off a working day, one of them a recording artist with a Latin Grammy nomination behind her, the other a junior litigator, agreeing on camera that the sweat is the point.

His father gave PEOPLE a statement about being proud of his son’s integrity, courage and character, and said nothing had brought the family more pleasure than this. The statement was the formal document of the engagement. The phone video was the real one.

Jardim Botânico

The bride was born Giulia Bourguignon Marinho in Rio in August 1999. She signed with Warner Music in 2018, released “With You” and “Too Bad” in English, scored her first proper hit in 2020 with “Menina Solta”, was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2021 Latin Grammys, picked up a second nod for “Aviso De Amigo”, and starred in Netflix’s “Beyond the Universe” in 2022. Her mother, Adriana, manages her.

Eight years, two languages, a streaming film and two Latin Grammy nominations, with the management contract kept inside the house. That is not a debutante’s career. It is a small family firm with one artist on the roster, and it was built in Rio while the groom was still at Harvard.

Her father, Paulo Marinho, has worked in the financial market, in shipbuilding and as a communications executive, and became an influential figure in Rio society; WWD notes in passing that he was a friend of Aristotle Onassis. In 2018 he gave over his residence in Jardim Botânico to serve as a headquarters for Jair Bolsonaro’s presidential campaign. Her brother, André Marinho, went from television and radio comedy to standing as a candidate for governor of Rio this year.

A house lent to a presidential campaign, a comedian brother on a gubernatorial ballot, a father whose address book reached Onassis. Read that line to anyone who grew up around Hyannis Port and watch the recognition arrive.

So the Kennedys have not married into money so much as into the same trade, conducted in a different language, with better weather.

Nobody Priced It

No credible figure exists for the fortune on either side of this marriage. The aggregator sites that supply the internet’s net worths give the bride three different answers and no records to support any of them. One says $1.5 million, one says “$1–5 million”, one says $6 million; choose according to mood. Nothing has been published on her father’s wealth at all, and the groom is reported to work for a living as a litigation attorney rather than to draw from a Kennedy trust.

That absence is the most old-fashioned thing about the whole weekend. Two families with long public lives on two continents, a three-day event photographed from the first blessing, and not one number anybody can stand behind. The press got the aria, the atelier and the archive. The sums stayed indoors.

The one figure in this story with a form behind it belongs to the comedian. Standing for governor obliges a candidate to declare, and André Marinho declared assets of R$407,503.55, around US$75,000 at this year’s rates, as reported by Terra: his own electoral filing, which says nothing about anybody else in the family.

The cost of the three days was not disclosed by anyone. Nobody has priced the gloves.

Wisner Baum, Los Angeles

The groom read History & Literature at Harvard, took his law degree at Georgetown in 2023, and works out of the Los Angeles office of Wisner Baum, on the team running the Zantac cancer litigation with more than 11,000 clients bringing claims in the California and Delaware state courts. He turned 32 this summer.

Eleven thousand claimants is not a title on a letterhead; it is a docket, in two state court systems, that does not pause for a wedding in Rio. He has been qualified three years. The work is the kind that gets measured in filings rather than in photographs, which may be why so little of it has been photographed.

His mother, Mary Richardson Kennedy, died in 2012, when he was seventeen. His father is Secretary of Health and Human Services. He proposed in his work clothes and went back to the docket.
