This year may have been largely defined by the restrictions on international movement but a few important events still managed to punctuate the calendar. We take a look at some of the key society highlights of 2020:
LuisaViaRoma for UNICEF
Possibly the most spectacular event of the summer calendar, this glamorous fundraising event took place at the beautiful La Certosa di San Giacomo in Capri on August 29th.
Perched high on the Caprese hill, the evening included an intimate dinner followed by a live auction and performances by Clean Bandit, Rita Ora and Andrea Bocelli as a golden sunset set in the distance. Pure magic.
The evening was led by LUISAVIAROMA CEO Andrea Panconesi, UNICEF Italy Executive Director Paolo Rozera, and Fundraising Chairman Tommaso Chiabra and set the tone for a new annual collaboration between the Italian brand and UNICEF.
Virgos Delight – A Tribute To Slim Aarons
An impressive villa with wrap around views of the Mediterranean and minutes from the centre of Monte-Carlo in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin was the stage of the most decadent party of the summer.
Prada’s favourite kitsch singer Alessandro Ristori rocked a stage whilst colourful thematically dressed guests including the Casiraghis, Anna Cleveland, Pascal Moscheni, Vogue photographer German Larkin and the great and good of the European Jetset danced until late in the night (when Tale of Us took over the decks).
A true testament to the late Aaron’s credo: “photograph attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places.”
Naked Heart Foundation
Natalia ‘Supernova’ Vodianova had no plans to slow down her annual fundraising this year, instead she gathered the Monaco royals and many of the best known faces in film, fashion, cinema and finance for a night at the La Guérite restaurant on July 17 for a night of fun and philanthropy.
Vodianova’s then – fiancé and now husband, Antoine Arnault was in attendance alongside cohost Anna Andres, Joan Smalls, Pierre Casiraghi, Xenia Adonts, Beatrice Borromeo Casiraghi, Camilla Al-Fayed and Alessandra Rich.
The evening featured a cocktail reception, a lavish dinner, a performance by French singer-songwriter Yseult and a charitable auction which raised 400,000 euros for the French chapter of Naked Heart, which supports children with autism, Down’s syndrome, cerebral palsy and other special needs.
Bulgari at Palazzo Colonna
On September 14th, the Roman jeweller, Bulgari, hosted an intimate event at the impressive (and privately held) Palazzo Colonna in Rome to present their new Barocko Collection; an interpretation of Rome’s signature Baroque art and architecture movement.
Spoiling VIP guests and celebrities including Poppy Delevigne and Eva Herzigova with a stunning salon style show and dinner was undoubtedly the most sophisticated old-world dinner party of 2020, certainly one that is hard to beat.
