Summer Is Coming: Here Are Five Trends To Look Out For

June 19, 2021 Share

Have you pinned down your summer look yet?

If not, there’s still time to explore all the biggest upcoming trends of summer 2021. Amongst the fashion favourites this season, there are old faithfuls, modern twists on fashion classics and big comebacks, as well as some brand new looks.

Here are just a few of the trends to look out for this season.

Monochrome

Did monochrome ever really leave?

In fashion, it’s often classic glamour that rules supreme – and it doesn’t get much more classic than simple black and white. Monochrome has been a favourite on the runways and in fashion magazines for years now and we can’t particularly see a time when this sleek look doesn’t hit the mark.

As for the silhouettes we’re loving when it comes to monochrome, it’s all about structured tailoring. Tapered trousers, smart blazers, colour-block blouses – if it works just as well in the office as it does during a night out (with some clever accessorising, of course), then you’re good to go.

Statement Bralettes

Statement Bralettes

Less is more this summer – quite literally.

Crop tops have more than enjoyed their heyday by now. For summer 2021, it’s all about the bralette.

Of course, less fabric-per-garment doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve less chance to truly make a statement. By selecting bralettes in bold, vibrant patterns and colours (perhaps even with some eye-catching embellishment), you can certainly steal the show.

Take a jacket, by all means – but be prepared to take it off to show it off.

Take It To The Max(i)

What did we say about summer classics?

There’s perhaps no trend that reflects the summer quite as well as the maxi dress. Whether you decide to go flowing and bohemian or solid and structured, the maxi dress takes you from day to night, from beach to bar effortlessly.

A staple of both summer and festival chic, the maxi dress is to the summer wardrobe what the LBD is to the party wardrobe – an absolute must.

Disco Chic

We’ve been locked up for over a year, so who can blame us for wanting to go all out on this occasion?

In 2021, every floor is a dance floor. Dress accordingly by picking up a few disco-inspired pieces to add to your summer wardrobe. Whether it’s sequins, modern chainmail or party flares, the styles of the 1970s will be offering some very useful inspiration this year.

Shoes are a huge part of this trend, too – quite literally! Invest in some platform boots to glam up any outfit.

The Corset

The Corset

They may have been around for hundreds of years at this point, but corsets have never really gone out of fashion.

A lot easier to wear these days, however, corsets are now a staple of any decent party wardrobe. Not only do they make a wonderful alternative to the ‘jeans and a nice top’ look, corsets can be dressed up, dressed down and suit those of every size.

If you’ve never tried one out for yourself, now is the perfect time – they’ll be everywhere in the coming months.
