With the wrap of fashion weeks in New York and London, the exuberant party continues in Milan. Welcome to the Milan Fashion Week.
As to be expected of the Italians, the spring/summer 2022 shows – which, like in New York and London, are the first to be held in person since the start of the pandemic.
The Milan Fashion Week is always jam-packed with shows from powerhouse brands, but this year, the return to IRL runway presentations is especially intoxicating.
The event that started on the 21 – 27 September, 2021, features more than 125 shows, presentations and events and so far they do not disappoint. In fact they have brought us a smattering of exquisitely tailored, high octane glamour.
So, lets highlight some of the stand out moments expected to happen this year:
Kim Jones staged his first in-person runway for Fendi’s ready-to-wear. Raf Simons did the same for Prada, staging not one but two non-virtual outings, one in Milan and the other in Shanghai.
Emporio Armani celebrated its 40th anniversary with both a runway show and a corresponding exhibition.
Then there’s Missoni, Pucci, Marni, Ferragamo and Ferretti (where Gigi Hadid made her first Milan appearance since New York Fashion Week).
Meanwhile, over at Versace, Donatella welcomed Dua Lipa’s runway debut alongside Emily Ratajkowski, Lola Leon, and Naomi Campbell.
With such exciting events happening all over Milan, the one that no one can stop talking about is the singer-songwriters major appearance in 2022 spring/summer Versace edition.
Dua Lipa Takes Over Versace’s Runway At The Milan Fashion Week 2021
On 24 September 2021, before the spring/summer 2022 show began, Versace had a team of shirtless muscle men come out and take their positions by a series of thick ropes. The men pulled and pulled throughout the runway to keep the baroque canopies billowing.
The theme for Versace’s spring collection was ‘70s disco.
Once the lights finally came up, Dua Lipa stepped out in a black set, complete with brightly coloured safety pins holding her skirt together as her song “Physical” set the rhythm of the spirited runway show.
Later in the show, she changed into a hot pink shimmery crop top and skirt combination, which served as a fun counterpart to her all-black ensemble.
The dark aesthetic continued on the models behind her, before eventually turning to highlighter shades of purple, green, pink, and so on.
Aside from all the sequin miniskirts and shimmery dresses, there were highlighter-yellow printed sporty sets, silky trousers, and asymmetrical skirts held together by a single safety pin.
Chainmail dresses and monochrome suits closed the show, accessorized with chunky heels and pastel tights.
A number of recognizable faces walked, all to the soundtrack of a pop medley. Gigi Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski, and Adriana Lima were all present. Most notably, Naomi Campbell herself, who has had a longstanding relationship with the brand, made an appearance.
The confluence of all the serious stars on the Versace runway almost broke the internet which they live-streamed on Versace’s Instagram page.
Another surprising face to see hit the runway was Madonna’s daughter.
Lourdes Leon left little to the imagination as she strutted her stuff down the runway during the Versace ‘Ready to Wear’ spring/summer fashion show.
The 24-year-old turned heads with her busty appearance in a cut-out dress which clung on to her sensational physique.
Once the final walkthrough commenced, Donatella Versace came out for her bow in skin-tight latex, arm in arm with Lipa wearing the finale piece: a bright pink, slinky gown.
