Tim Curry died on 25 August 2026 at his home in the Toluca Lake area of Los Angeles, aged 80, and within hours the property pages were reporting a contingent offer on a house he had sold a quarter of a century earlier.
That house is 2666 Aberdeen Avenue in Los Feliz. Curry bought it in 1993 for $650,000, according to Yahoo’s reporting on the sale, and the current asking price is $7,495,000. Realtor.com reported the contingent buyer the same day the death was announced. Several entertainment outlets have since used the word “sold”. The Compass listing says pending, and the buyer has not been disclosed, which is a useful distinction for anyone doing arithmetic on a fortune that has not yet changed hands.
The purchase itself is the part people will repeat. A developer had the 1922 house down for demolition. Curry was shown around by his friend and fellow actor Annie Potts, made an offer on the spot, and got it partly because a rival bidder withdrew from escrow after being told by a psychic that the place was haunted, as Domain reported. The man who played Frank-N-Furter and Pennywise took the haunted house at a discount created by someone else’s nerves.
The building was designed by Stiles O. Clements for Charles Seyler Jr. and is still known as the Seyler House. Architectural Digest photographed it in August 1924, two years after completion, and came back in 1998 to document what Curry had done to it: exposed wood-beam ceilings, hand-painted surfaces, stained glass, iridescent copper, vintage tile. Three years later he sold it for $2.6 million.
Abdul-Jabbar, Pattinson, Parsons, Paul
The owners who followed read like a seating plan. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Noah Wyle, Robert Pattinson, Jim Parsons and Aaron Paul all held the deeds at one point or another. Pattinson sold to Parsons for $6,375,000, according to a Trulia real-estate post, though that figure comes from a single older secondary source and the precise terms have never been widely reported. Paul brought in Commune Design for a renovation in 2019.
By the time it reached the open market again in July 2025 it was asking just under $10 million, cut to $7,495,000 on 6 August 2025. The listing describes nearly 1.5 acres, a pool, a koi pond, a cold plunge, a spa, an amphitheatre, and a secret passageway to a speakeasy behind a vault. Not all of that was Curry’s doing. Some of it, plainly, was.
From $650,000 to $7,495,000 is roughly 11.5 times over 32 years, which is the property’s journey rather than the actor’s. Curry realised $2.6 million in 2001 and nothing after that. The appreciation belongs to the people who came next, plus a renovation, plus Los Feliz. Rescuing a house is a hobby that pays out to whoever happens to own it last.
He did it more than once. Curry sold another Los Angeles home to Christina Ricci in 2005 for $1.695 million, and in 2006 bought a Cromwell Avenue property from David Hyde Pierce for $2 million. The pattern was consistent: buy the thing with good bones, put the details back, move on before the market noticed what had happened.
In 2012 Curry suffered a major stroke that left him partially paralysed and using a wheelchair for the rest of his life. He kept working, mostly in voice, and published a memoir, Vagabond, in 2025. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health listed coronary artery disease as the cause of death, with a history of stroke and kidney cancer as contributing factors, as reported by People. His longtime manager, Marcia Hurwitz, confirmed the death on 26 August.
Estimates of what he left behind run from about $8 million to as much as $14 million, depending on which tracker you believe; Celebrity Net Worth puts the figure at $8 million. He never married and had no children. Whether there is a will, and who is named in it, has not been publicly disclosed, and anyone telling you otherwise is guessing.
What is documented is a 1922 Spanish Colonial Revival estate that was scheduled to be knocked down, was not, and has since passed through an NBA centre, a vampire, a physicist and a meth dealer. The offer landed on the day the news broke.
