The latest Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga release is out, and here are the things you need to know about the 36-piece capsule closet.
Yeezy is and has always been Ye’s (formerly known as Kanye West) big screw-you to the fashion industry. The baby of a Black man who infiltrated fashion after his ideas were deemed absurd only to be emulated by the long-standing greats. As of May 27, Yeezy Gap released the collection “Engineered by Balenciaga”, a highly anticipated collaboration between three big fashion giants with very distinct audiences.
Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga contains hoodies and denim jackets, both elevated with couture-like proportions and cuts as well as Ye’s latest obsession – face masks. In terms of palette, the drop sticks to basics; blacks, nudes, and the occasional washed denim – a reflection of what Ye’s style has been recent.
“It is a vision come true to work with Gap and Demna, the creative director of Balenciaga, to make the incredible product available to everyone at all times,” Ye told Vogue earlier this year.
Demna has been involved in a fashionable romance with Ye for quite some time, and the stylist has heavily influenced both Kim Kardashian and Ye’s closets in recent years. His powerful influence in the release is ever-present, blended into GAP’s iconic American staples and bridging the gap (ha!) between Balenciaga’s couture and GAP’s high-street fashion.
With 36 capsule pieces to choose from, here are the ones we think you should keep an eye out for.
For the Yeezy Devotees
With Yeezy’s signature high-fashion asymmetric hoodies and garments, the Sateen Anorak is very reminiscent of past releases.
For Those Looking to Keep Extra Warm
The Mock Neck Pullover Puffer is a jumper (or is it a jacket?) unlike anything you might have seen before.
For GAP enthusiasts
GAP and their hoodies are iconic at a global scale – but what if they could inch closer to Yeezy and Balenciaga’s couture-like status? In comes the Dove Long Sleeve Tee.
A good minimalist wardrobe is incomplete without a quality t-shirt to sport in both the most casual and, if worn correctly, not-so-casual events. Of course, Yeezy Gap x Balenciaga has not left the minimalist hanging with the Logo 3/4 Sleeve Tee.
There’s only two official places where you can get hold of the Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga, so make sure you’re visiting Yeezy Gap and Farfetch, where you can also get yourself some of Yeezy Adidas’s new sneakers.
