Meet Sam Wilde, the creative whose signature worldbuilding approach to pattern creation is like nothing you’ve seen before.
Up-and-coming textile designer Sam Wilde is based in Sevenoaks, Kent. Wilde works from his Tuscan-pink home studio surrounded by countryside. Before graduating with a Master’s from the Royal College of Art, Wilde studied Natural Sciences with a focus on biology and conservation, which provided a scientific underpinning that continues to inform his work: “The brilliant thing about the natural world is, the more you learn about it, the more you’ll marvel at its many wonders.”
His studies have leveraged him with the skill set to pioneer a brand new approach to surface creation. Having produced works for a number of reputable brands including Apple, Svenskt Tenn, and British Airways. Wilde is now focused on establishing his signature world-building approach through his newly launched creative practice Vespertine.
He founded the luxury British interiors, fashion and homeware brand Vespertine, to not only enrich our bodies, homes and spaces with worlds depicting unabashed warmth and personality. But also to empower the viewer through each pattern’s conceptual message, and evoke in them a sense of childhood wonderment for the epics hidden within.
Sam Wilde is best known for his bold repeat patterns depicting fantastical worlds. A significant consideration is taken so that each element within these worlds builds to form a logically cohesive scene, filled to the brim with subtle symbolism and immersive detail.
He works across various mediums, including animation, digital illustration, screen printing and watercolour, and sights his personal experience as a synesthete, with 90s video games and evolutionary biology as his biggest influences.
Wilde considers the surfaces he creates as their own visually escapist worlds. Great consideration is taken so that each and every element within these worlds builds to form a logically cohesive scene, filled to the brim with nuanced symbolism and immersive detail.
