Home of Plenty is The New Winery That Should Be on Your Radar

April 18, 2024 Share

Strikingly bold, fun and playful, Adelaide has a new cellar door which has all millennials on a chokehold.

Have you ever noticed how wineries are never particularly colourful places? Whilst they may be nestled amongst beautiful hills and fields, wineries often opt for more subdued interior design and branding that caters for elegance and quiet sophistication. But not Home of Plenty.

What is Home of Plenty?

Home of Plenty, in Adelaide, started as a passion project by Ben Shaw, who transformed an old shearing shed on his family’s Currency Creek property into a contemporary cellar door. A cellar door, in turn, refers to the part of the vineyard where guests can sample and purchase wines directly from the producer. It’s typically part of the winery itself and offers visitors a chance to experience the ambiance of the winery, learn more about the wine-making process, and often enjoy some local foods paired with the wines.

What Makes Home of Plenty Different

Probably a lot of things, but the one that stands out is the winery’s aesthetics, which given Shaw’s background in marketing, are understandably impressive. Opting for a vibrant marketing in tones of orange, yellow and pink, the experience Home of Plenty offers is nothing short of curated. Feeding from the ever-popular Australian aesthetics, Home of Plenty’s interior design uses plenty of timber and stone, paired with punches of green and, of course, rattan.

But What About the Wine?

A winery can be as beautiful as it wishes to be, but if the wine slacks, the place is over. Home of Plenty offers three kinds; A 2021 Pinot Gris, A 2021 Sangiovese and a Shiraz, from (you guessed it), 2021. They were busy those post-covid years.

What Else?

The question should almost be framed inversely; what not? In a recent interview with Glam Adelaide, House of Plenty owner explained the cellar door was much more than just that. “We have a studio space in the back where we paint, there’s a temporary surfboard shaping bay out the back…more music events are in the calendar, some art exhibitions and most importantly we want to make sure people have a great experience when they come in and try some of our wines and food.”

And they sure do. Offering wine at a remarkably affordable price for Australian standards (people in Italy and Spain are laughing, but the wine there is absurdly cheap), Home of Plenty has guests sprawling on the lawns and enjoying the sun down under.

And whilst the winery is still really new, people are already captivated. And so are we.
