Dwayne Johnson Is Back In Action | The Rock’s DC Debut Revealed And More

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has finally been starred in a superhero movie. He found the role he was “born to play” in his upcoming superhero film – And no it’s not the hulk.

After years of development and constant reassurances that the movie is definitely still happening, Warner Bros. finally released an opening scene for its upcoming supervillain film ‘Black Adam’, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as one of the baddest fighters in the DC universe.

The actor, 49, who plays the long-imprisoned archenemy of ‘Shazam!’, revealed the first look at his DC Extended Universe debut during the virtual DC FanDome event on 16 October 2021.

Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was born into a professional wrestling family in 1972. An injury ended his college football career, so he entered the ring with the WWE.

As “The Rock,” he famously feuded with wrestler Steve Austin and won the WWE Heavyweight title numerous times. Johnson then parlayed his wrestling fame into a film career, appearing in projects like 2001’s ‘The Mummy Returns’ and 2010’s ‘Tooth Fairy’.

Later projects include the HBO series ‘Ballers’ and leading roles in ‘The Fast and the Furious’ and Jumanji franchises and the voice as demigod Maui in ‘Moana’.

Now the star is set to play something totally different from his usual comedic side.

Johnson was first announced as ‘Black Adam’ way back in 2014 when the character was still set to appear as a villain in ‘Shazam!’ The role evolved over the years, eventually splitting into a separate solo film for the supervillain and occasional antihero.

He teased that the new film has “without question, some of the biggest action sequences I have ever been a part of” and some “breathtaking scenes that I know you’re really going to love.”

“Now, what you’re going to see here is why the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change,” Johnson told

Along with Johnson’s character, ‘Black Adam’ also focuses on the members of the Justice Society: Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, who can fly thanks to his special metal wings; Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, who can control his molecules and thereby change his size, density, and strength; Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, who can control the wind; and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, an archaeologist who becomes a powerful sorcerer while wearing the Helmet of Fate.

‘Black Adam’ hits theatres on July 29, 2022.

However, it doesn’t stop there. The Rock has also been filming a movie set to be released on 12 November 2021 – a Netflix original called ‘Red Notice’.

On Saturday, at Netflix’s global fan event Tudum, the streamer dropped the first clip from their massive $130M action blockbuster Red Notice starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot.

Johnson called it “Netflix’s biggest movie ever” and “absolutely massive.”

‘Red Notice’ stars Johnson as the top FBI profile who is forced to work with the world’s best con artist (Reynolds) to capture the world’s greatest thief (Gadot).

The movie marks Johnson’s third collaboration with director Rawson Marshall Thurber, on the heels of ‘Central Intelligence’ (2016), the Warner Bros. action-comedy in which he starred with Kevin Hart, and ‘Skyscraper’ (2018), a thriller also starring Neve Campbell, Chin Han and Roland Moller.
